Toruń has a charming, Gothic-style Old Town where historical monuments are within arm's reach. Since 2008, the "Luncheon on Grass" picnic event for the local community and tourists has been organized annually in one of Europe's most beautiful Old Town market squares, in front of the City Hall building. The event, held on 5 June, celebrates the World Environment Day, and it aims to raise public awareness about the threats posed by a consumption-oriented life style. During the picnic, members of the local community learn how they can minimize the negative effects of civilizational growth on the natural environment. 
Over the past two years, picnic participants have been gathering on a grass patch with the area of  1000 m2, planted especially for the World Environment Day next to the Nicolaus Copernicus monument. They talk about ecology, sustained development, climate changes and how minor changes in our daily habits can contribute to environmental protection. The field is turned into a recreational area with blankets and picnic hampers. Visitors can listen to live music, visit organic food stalls, participate in competitions, games and other outdoor recreation activities at the heart of Toruń. The main objective of the event has been achieved over the past two years. This friendly event combined with an educational campaign proved to be a great success with the local community, attracting around 2000 participants each year. The planted grass never goes to waste – after the event, it is moved to public greens in the city.
The "Luncheon on Grass" became a regular feature in Toruń's calendar of educational and recreational events. This year's picnic will begin in the morning of 5 June in Toruń's Old Town Market Square. Do not give this exciting event a miss!

托伦市拥有优雅的哥特式老城。自2008年起，每年世界环保日（6月份）之际，在市政厅对面遗迹建筑的周围--欧洲最美丽的老城市场上，“生长着”绿油油的草地。就是在这片草地上，市政府为全地区的市民及游客举行“露天早餐”活动。活动主要目的是使人们意识到消费性生活方式的危险性，以及指教人们如何将人对环境的负面影响降低到最小化。
自两年前起，每年世界环保日时，我们就在托伦市面积一千平方米的绿地上，坐在尼古拉斯•哥白尼的旁边，谈论着关于生态学（即平衡发展规则、气候变化及人们日常生活习惯变化）的问题。
市民总是带着毛毯、野餐篮及野餐食品在草地上休息。
人们都可以享受到音乐，参观销售生态食品摊位，参加各种比赛及娱乐活动。在市中心，在大自然的怀抱中积极地度过业余时间。
连续举行了两次野餐，使我们实行了我们的目标，即为市民举办健康向上的、有趣的并具有教育意义的活动。每年野餐的参加者达到两千人。
该活动得到了市民的积极响应。市政厅的临时草地不会被浪费——活动之后我们将它移到其他的城市绿地。
“露天早餐”是托伦市教育及娱乐的持续活动。下一次野餐将于2010年6月5日，在老城市场举行。欢迎您来访托伦市！
